Praia da Falésia is one of the 25 best beaches in the world

Praia da Falésia is one of the 25 best beaches in the world

It's one of the most emblematic beaches of Albufeira, in the Algarve. And it is there that Portuguese and foreign tourists want to go on vacation this year.

Praia da Falésia, in the heart of Albufeira, Algarve, also known as Praia das Açoteias, has just been considered one of the 25 best beaches in the world. The choice is the result of an analysis by Travellers Choice, which every year compiles the reviews, ratings and favorite places shared by travelers from around the world. This information is analyzed and then used to find the best tourist destinations around the globe. According to travelers, Praia da Falésia, which has exhibited a Blue Flag for several years, is distinguished above all by its geological and marine qualities, i.e. the red sand cliffs, the blue-green ocean and the white sand, which stretches between Olhos de Água and Vilamoura.

The tranquility and cleanliness are also praised factors. Moreover, Praia da Falésia has a totally tarred road access, has ample and orderly parking 300 meters from the beach and has a wide range of equipment, such as restaurants, toilets and bathing and recreational facilities, as well as surveillance during the bathing season. Being inserted in Albufeira, where restaurants, bars and discos abound, it also allows you to enjoy a busy and lively daily life, day and night. All these reasons explain the international recognition of this beach that, by the way, comes from far away.

The difference is that this year, the Falésia beach, also recognized for its beneficial properties for health, appears, thus, equal to the beaches of Cuba, Brazil, Florida, Australia or Hawaii. In this list that distinguishes "The best of the best", in the Beach category, the beach in the South of Portugal occupies the 13th place, ahead of mythical places like the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica or Tanzania. The mayor of Albufeira, José Carlos Rolo, reacted with great satisfaction: "On the one hand, it is a recognition of what we have and cherish; on the other hand, it is an incentive for all of us, because we hope, and there are indicators in this direction, that we can still have a very satisfactory summer for commerce, restaurants, hotels and for the people of Albufeira in general".

But the fascination of the Algarve is far from exhausted in a single beach or municipality. The region that is one of the biggest tourist destinations in Europe and the world is made up of 16 municipalities, each with its own identity, but also with a triple common denominator: the stunning landscape, the mild temperature 365 days a year and the luxury real estate, chosen by foreigners for second home, vacation homes or increasingly, for permanent residence, either to enjoy retirement in a place with enormous quality of life, or to work remotely.

In addition, there are three more virtues that are impossible to ignore. First of all, the practice of golf, whose green fields stretch almost to the Atlantic Ocean, dragging players, professionals and amateurs, from all over the world. And speaking of the sea, it is worth mentioning that the entire Algarve coast is an incentive to all water sports, without exception: from surfing to diving, sailing and water skiing. Then, it is impossible to be in the Algarve and not take a crash course in the region's cuisine, which is strong on fresh fish, lobster, and seafood, but where you cannot miss the taste of chicken cabidela or roast lamb. This cuisine, which remains in the memory of tourists, would never be complete without the fig or almond sweets. Finally, the handicraft. The Algarvians keep alive the flame of making "the old fashioned way", and in this tradition they build pieces that can't be found anywhere else, be it copper and brass utensils, cane basketry or bobbin lace.

If this year you visit the beach where everyone wants to spend their vacations, keep these tips in mind. And two more: Falésia beach is part of a line of about 20 kilometers, all full of unmissable beaches. If you are nearby, also visit Salgados beach, not yet discovered by tourists, and the small beach of S. Rafael, known for its turquoise blue water. If you can never leave the region, contact LUXIMOS Christie's International Real Estate, to find out where and how to buy a house you can always return to.
