The Algarve enjoys a mild climate 365 days a year. 3000 hours of sun a year, golden beaches backed by cliffs, unique conditions for water sports and golf courses combine to captivate foreign visitors who increasingly recognise the Algarve as a perfect destination for every season of the year.

The excellent quality/price ratio in the southernmost region of Portugal also contributes to the Algarve being chosen for second homesor holiday homes. However, an increasing number of foreigners choose the Algarve for their permanent residence, particularly in order to spend their retirement in an area with high quality of life.

The mild climate, the country’s safeness, the abundant flights and short flight distance from the main European cities, the existing community of foreign residents, the beauty of the landscape and the welcoming people and calm lifestyle all make the Algarve an increasingly sought-after destination among both foreigners and Portuguese.

Nevertheless, the Algarve is not a region entirely focused on tourism. Although a significant area of its coast is dominated by tourist complexes, most of its interior and some coastal areas remain untouched, presenting a surprising wealth of wildlife and virgin landscapes, classified as nature reserves.

In Portugal, there are approximately 250,000 foreign residents with high net worth, most of whom live in the Algarve: they have substantial purchasing power and are socially integrated. Many are attracted by its internationally award-winning golf courses and by luxury real estate. The central Algarve region, particularly the Golden Triangle, with some of the most exclusive destinations in Portugal – Quinta do Lago, Vale do Lobo and Vilamoura – attracts affluent and ultra-affluent clients from all over the world.

There are several foreign communities resident in the Algarve, including English, Irish, Dutch and German communities, fully integrated into the life of this region that welcomes them and has adapted to this international environment. In the Algarve there are media, including radio stations and newspapers, aimed at these nationalities, as well as international schools. The Algarve also offers an extensive programme of activities in foreign languages for everybody to feel at home.
