Demarcated with the oldest frontiers of Europe, the North of Portugal is secularly associated with its historical, cultural and natural heritage, as well as the diversity of its landscapes, often distinguished as a patrimony of humanity.
In this region of mountains and natural parks, heritage spreads through castles and squares filled with history where you can find the most exclusive properties, with traditional charm or contemporary innovation.

The region of Costa Verde has as main cities, besides Porto, Braga, Viana do Castelo, Póvoa de Varzim, Vila do Conde.
The heritage of a past full of history and stories ennobles the region and enchants who visits it.
In this green land, the green wine was born, unique in the world. It is an excellent reason to discover the region of Costa Verde.

Take a weekend to visit the region, its vineyards, farms and wine cellars. You will be impressed by the natural and ancient beauty of this territory in northern Portugal, home to friendly people, who not only know how to, but enjoy welcoming visitors in the best possible way. Join us and discover how the Vinho Verde wine is produced and learn more about the rich cultural diversity and heritage wealth.

Its name is linked to the predominant color of the region where it is produced or to the acidity peculiar to it, as if the grapes were harvested before they had matured. However, white or red, it is a light wine that one drinks fresh and accompanies well various types of fish and seafood, abundant in the coastline. The white wine, the most appreciated and well-known, is especially aromatic and refreshing. It is well-liked as an aperitif, with salads, snacks or in a simple pause on a hot day.

The vineyards, mainly concentrated along the rivers, benefit from the influence of the Atlantic and, in their search for the sun, the vines intertwine in the trees, climb in trellises and embroider fields punctuated by typical granaries.
They are distributed in nine sub-regions: Monção and Melgaço; Lima; Basto; Cávado; Ave; Amarante; Baião; Sousa and Paiva.

Do not miss the opportunity of a wine tasting, visit the vineyards and the winery on the farms that welcome it.
The farms, wine cellars, restaurants, housing units and tourist animation business companies in the region offer several activities and itineraries along the Vinho Verde Route.
