Portugal is in the Top 10 of the best countries in the all world to enjoy retirement, achieving a result of 82.9 out of possible 100. According to International Living magazine, it ranks tenth in the list of the 23 best countries in the world.
The ranking, this year led by Panama, analyzes ten variables, from tax benefits, the conditions of access to residence visas, to the weather and the entertainment options. The evaluation of the retirees quality of life is made on a scale of 0 to 100. It is in infrastructures (93%) and in the healthy lifestyle (88%) that Portugal earns more points as a "paradise of retirement".
Nonetheless, the special status for a non-permanent resident continues to represent a major Portuguese attraction for those who are in retirement, especially within Europe. The special tax regime allows pensioners residing in Portugal, but receiving their pensions from another country, to be exempt from paying IRS for ten years.
