Leça da Palmeira, an ideal place to buy a house

Leça da Palmeira, an ideal place to buy a house

In the Greater Porto region, Leça da Palmeira is one of the most iconic places to buy a house. The beach, the gastronomy and the heritage help to understand why.

"Ideal for living at any time of the year, and for growing up at any time of life, Leça da Palmeira is much more than the "most beautiful land in Portugal", as the band Expensive Soul sings. It is a unique place, which harmoniously combines urbanism and tranquillity". This is how the Spanish daily "El Mundo" refers to this parish of Matosinhos, which has less than twenty thousand inhabitants, but a galloping number of applicants, Portuguese and foreigners, who want to buy a house there, in that locality next to Porto and the Atlantic Ocean. The new Ocean Terrace development, a luxurious and modern private condominium with sea views, which is being marketed by LUXIMOS Christie's International Real Estate, gives a big push to this growing desire to invest in the territory where the poet António Nobre lived and wrote almost all his work. Leça da Palmeira is the right place for those seeking quality of life and quietness, while remaining close to everything. It is seven minutes away from the Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport and 10 minutes away from the centre of Porto.

Are you curious about the Ocean Terrace? It is an architecturally bold project, designed down to the last millimetre to make the most of the blue sky and the blue sea, that is, the natural light. Built on a plot of over 13,000m2, it consists of three buildings with new apartments, ranging from studio to four bedroom duplexes, almost all with large balconies facing the sea, and all with access to the magnificent gardens, the swimming pool, the paddle tennis court, the gym and the fully-equipped co-working space. These are luxury properties, with 24-hour security, that stand out for their construction quality, but also for the areas, which vary between 60m2 and 526m2, and obviously for the attention given to detail: the windows have aluminium frames and thermal double glazing, the floors are made of oak multilayer, the cupboards are lacquered and the air conditioning system was put in place to ensure maximum comfort in summer and winter. The kitchen is equipped with Miele built-in appliances and the bathrooms have suspended sanitary ware and Grohe taps. On the upper floors, the 3 and 4 bedroom duplexes also have the possibility of installing a homelift, that is, a private lift.

Ocean Terrace

The Ocean Terrace is in the heart of the scenario that dazzled the Spanish journalists: just a few minutes from the beaches, restaurants, cafés, terraces and nature parks, particularly those integrated in Quinta da Conceição and Quinta de Santiago, two autonomous but contiguous properties, separated only by Avenida Dr. António Macedo. Quinta da Conceição also houses the Museum - Art Centre of Matosinhos, designed by the architect Fernando Távora (1923-2005). This space also has a swimming pool and two tennis courts available to visitors. Quinta de Santiago, designed by the architect Nicola Bigaglia (1903-1905), a Venetian who moved to the North of Portugal in 1880, has an almost endless number of tree species; plantains, japonica, avocado, elm, cork, eucalyptus, tulip, lime, ash, rose, birch, poplar, oak, horse chestnut, maritime pine, mimosa, among many others.

The location of this development is, in fact, a synthesis of what best defines Leça da Palmeira, a land of fishermen and home to the port of Leixões, one of Portugal's main sea ports, as noted in "El Mundo": "a perfect symbiosis between nature and architecture". And if nature includes the many white sandy beaches and extends to the experiences provided by the water sports practised there, from sailing to surfing, the architecture is anything but an insignificant detail in this paradisiacal place. Remember that this is where some of the most emblematic works of Álvaro Siza Vieira, the legendary Pritzker Prize-winning architect, are to be found, such as Casa da Boa Nova or Piscina das Marés (Tidal Pool), recently classified as a National Monument, both of which are a must-see. And it is also here that the second largest lighthouse in Portugal is located, 46 metres high and with 213 steps inside. It was inaugurated in 1927 and is still operating today. But if the idea is to be a little more prosaic, then it is worth pointing out that Leça da Palmeira is home to a reasonable number of award-winning and unforgettable restaurants, especially for those who appreciate fresh fish and seafood.
