Porto hosts the first exhibition of Anish Kapoor, master of contemporary art

The Serralves Museum in Porto hosts for the first time the celebrated Indian artist Anish Kapoor. The exhibition "Works, Thoughts, Experiences" features four major works by the sculptor and the never before exhibited "Language of Birds".
The first individual exhibition in Portugal of the work of Anish Kapoor, one of the most important contemporary sculptors, includes four pieces distributed in the Serralves Park, accompanied by a sculpture in the museum and 56 models, which were made by the artist over 40 years.
The piece "Sectional Body preparing for Monadic Singularity", first presented at Versailles in 2015, and built in bright red PVC, aims to reflect on "the change of space" and the articulation between "the interior and exterior of the object," describes the art portal "Art Capital".

"Sky Mirror", which has passed through London, New York and Mumbai, consists of a stainless steel concave mirror that "forces observers to enter the domain of the piece itself" so that they can experience its totality, reflecting the place where it is exposed, in a kind of bringing "heaven to earth."

"Language of Birds", an inedited one, consists of a spiral staircase where, once a week, a bird caller will ascend the pedestal, referring to a childhood memory of the sculptor.

"Descent into Limbo" is the oldest sculpture in the exhibition and whose title is inspired by a work of the same name by the Renaissance painter Andrea Mantegna, which arises from the artist's interest "for the formal and metaphorical play between light and darkness, interior and exterior, the contained and the infinite”, the statement refers.
